Thiele Heating & Air Conditioning Introduces Warning Watchdog™ Anti-Theft System for Air Conditioner Condensing Units

News: Thiele Heating & Air Conditioning Introduces Warning Watchdog, an Anti-Theft System for Air Conditioner Condensing Units

Indianapolis, Indiana: July 22, 2008 - Thiele Heating & Air Conditioning, Indianapolis' oldest heating and cooling company, announced the addition of a new security device to their product line. They now sell and install the Warning Watchdog™, an alarm system that monitors air conditioner condensers to help prevent the theft of copper tubing. Warning Watchdog™ sounds an extremely loud siren when the condenser is tampered with, and can also trigger an alarm, phone dialer, or any other security device.

Theft of copper condensing units has been an ongoing and growing problem across the country. According to Tulsa World journalist Phil Mulkins, "Over the past two years, law enforcement agencies and utility companies have seen a dramatic rise in the theft of copper wiring and refrigeration copper tubing from businesses and utility facilities. The destruction does $3,000 in damages for $25 worth of scrap copper."

Pegasus News Wire reports that during this past July 4th weekend in Ft. Worth, Texas, copper and aluminum were stolen from a total of fourteen air conditioning units serving three area high schools' classroom buildings. While the loss is estimated to be just under $23,000, metal thieves recently caused at least $132,000 in additional damage to rooftop AC units at one school.

The rise in copper thefts is being attributed to the surge in scrap copper prices brought on by demand for the metal as a result of the rapid modernization of developing nations around the globe. The price of copper has more than doubled in the past year.

"As the price of copper continues to rise, especially during these warm summer months, we have seen a rise in condensing unit theft," stated Thiele owner John Traub. "Having the Warning Watchdog installed onto easily accessible outdoor equipment is a reasonable response to the current situation and a good solution for securing your condensing unit, which can ultimately save you thousands of dollars if you had to replace a unit or repair costly damage to the air conditioning system."

Key features to the product include:

  • Can be used with split systems and packaged units
  • Available for wireless or hardwired models that can monitor up to four condensing units
  • Alarms if refrigerants lines or any wires are cut, or if the disconnect is pulled
  • Extra loud 112 dB sounder / siren alarm

The Warning Watchdog™ can be installed by Thiele's highly trained service technicians as part of a new installation, or retrofitted into existing systems.
